Diary of Madmen by Dmitry Krymov Comes to Minneapolis – Special Screening
On April 25, audiences in Minneapolis will have a unique opportunity to experience Diary of Madmen (Записки сумасшедших) as a special film screening at Trylon Cinema.
Originally created as a theater production by visionary director Dmitry Krymov, Diary of Madmen was developed after Krymov left Russia in 2022 and has become a powerful reflection on exile, identity, and the role of the artist in times of upheaval.
The Minneapolis event offers a chance to experience the acclaimed production through its film version, which premiered in Riga in 2024 and received widespread critical praise.
At the heart of the piece are two extraordinary actors, Chulpan Khamatova and Maksim Sukhanov, who portray artists navigating loss, memory, and the search for meaning in a transformed world. Their performance blends deeply personal storytelling with references to world literature, echoing voices from William Shakespeare to Nikolai Gogol and Franz Kafka.
More than a performance, Diary of Madmen is a meditation on love, loneliness, dignity, and resilience. It captures what it means to continue creating – finding humor, connection, and inner freedom, even when the world feels unstable.
This screening at Trylon Cinema provides a rare and accessible way for Twin Cities audiences to engage with Krymov’s work.
